For one day a year dozens of Newcastle artists come together for Play Date! Play Date is Knock And Run Theatre’s annual short play festival that celebrates new writing and collaboration!
Any thing is possible and the only limit is your imagination. Text based performance, dance, musicals, puppetry, mime, physical theatre and more are all welcome at Play Date!

WHY I LOVE THE MOON
Written by Nyah Le and Ashleigh Henderson. Story by Yasmin Oliveria-Couper
”'Why I Love The Moon' follows the story of Hinata: a 17-year-old girl who is consumed by the anxieties of growing up. The play explores Hinatas' complicated relationship with time and its effects (represented by the moon). As the story progresses, we see Hinata address her fears, as a result of her sister Stella and their situation. The entirety of the play is set at night time, excluding a few final moments, where the sun rises, posing as the catalyst for a newfound acceptance of letting go of childhood and moving on.”

GREY OLD MAN
Written by Maddie Baillie and Anthony Morris. Directed by Maddie Baillie
”An old man, with the inability to speak, falls from the sky and sees a dangerous amount of rain on his descent. He lands in a drought stricken post apocalyptic terrain where he discovers a young boy, desperately digging for water. The old man attempts to warn the child about the potential danger, however, the boy finds the prospect of rain exciting. Upon returning to his village with the old man, he delivers the message of rain on deaf ears. The villagers abuse the old man, who begins to cry, creating a deluge of water, which inevitably destroys the village. The old man perishes in a flood created by his own tears.”
